If you haven't bowled before or
just need a few tips on how to bowl better, we've come
up with a few bowling pointers to get you into the swing
of things.
Bowling tips
Don't look at the pins when aiming, look at the arrows
situated fifteen feet beyond the foul line. Stand over
the corresponding dots on the approach and aim for the
arrow of your choice.
Aim just to the
left or just to the right side of the head pin for the
best chance of getting a strike.
When bowling the
ball allow the ball to swing using your arm like a pendulum.
Don't force your swing let the weight of the ball do the
work.
Right-handed bowlers
normally pull their swing to the left and left-handed
bowlers vice versa. To avoid this follow through your
swing after you release the ball reaching straight up
in the air.
Don't step over
the foul line. This will reset the pins and any pins you
knock over will not be added to your score.
Bowling
tips for kids
Children who are
to small to be able to bowl a ball can you use a special
ramp which they sit the ball on and push it off.
If you want to
avoid bowling the ball into the gutters at the side of
the lane ask for a lane with 'bumpers'. These are rails,
which run down the sides of the lane preventing the ball
rolling off the lane into the gutter.
Extra light 6lb balls are available upon
request at reception for people who find other balls too
heavy.
Ball
Selection
Balls range from
8lb - 16lb in weight
(Extra light 6lb balls available on request for small
children)
Select the heaviest
weight that you can comfortably manage
Finger holes sizes
vary. Each weight has every size from small to extra
Large
Select a finger
hole size by putting your thumb in the thumb hole and
(You should be able to pull your thumb back out with out
catching it) lay your hand across the ball placing your
middle fingers over the top of the finger holes. Your
middle knuckle should just over hang the finger hole.
Unless you are
bowling hold your bowling ball in two hands.
Only place one
ball per bowler on the ball return rack (placing too many
balls on the ball return at once will cause them to jam
in the machine!)
